HOW DO I WORK?
Much of the progress people make in therapy is built on the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, so it’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. Regardless of the model of therapy we choose for our work together, I always aim to create a safe place in which you can explore the issues that have brought you to me.
Therapy almost always involves a combination of building insight, developing acceptance of things that are outside of our control, and changing patterns of behaviour that are no longer serving us. The hardest part is often booking that first appointment - once you do I’ll help you with the rest.
SCHEMA THERAPY:
I offer Schema Therapy to clients seeking a deeper exploration of their issues. Schema Therapy is a longer term integrative therapy that targets unmet emotional needs from childhood and aims to break the unhelpful patterns of coping behaviour we often get stuck in, and carry into adulthood, as a result of these unmet needs. It’s particularly effective for personality difficulties, trauma and other conditions that are longstanding, recurrent or may not have responded to other forms of therapy in the past, including depression and anxiety.
The therapy process involves collaboratively developing an understanding of how your early experiences have shaped you, linking past experiences to your current relationships, patterns of thinking and feeling, and coping behaviours. It is an experiential therapy, which incorporates imagery and other techniques to increase emotional processing and facilitate behavioural change. It is often helpful for people who have tried other approaches and found that, although they can “get” something intellectually, this knowledge does not lead to emotional change. Schema Therapy requires commitment from the client to a longer term therapy.

INTEGRATIVE THERAPY:
I also offer integrative therapy tailored to the needs of individual clients. This incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy as appropriate. For some people therapy may be short term and focused on a specific goal, for others it may be longer term and seek to address more multifaceted or underlying issues.
