SCHEMA THERAPY TRAINING
I’m pleased to announce that, together with my colleague, Schema Therapy Supervisor Dr Tanya Petersen, I will be running ISST-Accredited Schema Minds Schema Therapy training in person in beautiful Prague in 2026! This consists of two 3-day blocks of modules. They will comprise the first step for therapists wishing to become an accredited Schema Therapist. The training will also be suitable for therapists interested in learning more about the model, who do not wish to seek certification.
Provisional dates are 15th-17th May 2026 (Module 1) and 4th-6th September 2026 (Module 2). The training will take place at Alivio Centrum in Hradčanská, Prague 6. The maximum number of participants is 20. Modules need to be completed in order for certification purposes: Module 1 followed by Module 2.
The cost for Module 1 and Module 2 is 14000 Kc (Czech crowns) each, or 28000 Kc total. There is a discount of 3000 Kc for participants paying for both modules together. Thus, for simultaneous registration, the total cost is 25000 Kc.
Full ISST requirements for therapists wishing to pursue certification as a Schema Therapist can be found here: https://www.schematherapysociety.org/page-19653. Applicants must 1) hold at least a Master's degree in psychology or a related subject, and 2) be licensed as an independent psychotherapist in the country in which they practise. Eligibility of applicants will be screened based on these criteria. For applicants not meeting these requirements, alternatives to full certification can be discussed.

Module 1: Fundamentals of Schema Therapy
Module 1 focuses on building a strong foundation in schema therapy through comprehensive assessment, formulation, and therapeutic practice. Trainees learn to assess schemas and modes using psychometrics, imagery, and self-reflection, and to develop transdiagnostic case formulations with a particular emphasis on borderline personality disorder. Core relational principles such as limited reparenting, empathic confrontation, boundary setting, and awareness of therapist schemas are central, alongside exploration of schema chemistry between client and therapist. The module emphasizes experiential change techniques, including imagery rescripting, chair work, role play, cognitive strategies, body-focused interventions, and behavioural pattern breaking, all aimed at strengthening the healthy adult mode. Homework is integrated to consolidate in-session work and promote change beyond therapy sessions.
Module 2: Working with Complex Presentations
Module 2 extends schema therapy to more complex and specialized presentations, focusing on adaptation and clinical flexibility. It covers formulation and treatment of narcissistic presentations and Cluster C personality disorders, as well as forensic populations. Emphasis is placed on tailoring schema, imagery, chair, cognitive, and body-focused techniques to address resistance, avoidance, anger, guilt-inducing critics, and other more complex and challenging presentations. It also encourages trainees to reflect on the potential for their own schemas and modes to be acitvated when working with clients.
